The Rockets kept it close enough last in Brooklyn losing 118-105 but covering the big 17 point spread. my best bets improved to 28-13 (68.3%) on the season. Tonight I have something similar in mind looking at an even bigger spread in Utah.
Best Bet: Thunder (+17.5) @ Jazz $$
Some of these point spreads are really getting out of line in the last week of the season. I see no good argument for this line to be so big.
The Thunder have been absolutely devastated by injuries this season and have eight regular players now listed as out for the season including several starters. Despite this, the team is actually playing better. Incredibly they have won four of their last seven games while playing mostly rookies. They have been the NBA’s best team ATS this season with a mark of 48-27 (65%) and have been even better on the road at 27-11 (71%). Even when the Thunder lose, they usually find a way to keep the game close enough to get the covers.
This is the biggest point spread I have seen the entire season surpassing the Nets being listed as 17 point favourites yesterday. The funny thing is the Jazz have not even been playing well recently with just two wins in their last eight games. I wrote an article about the Utah Jazz just last week for Last Word on Sports giving my opinion on why they are an over-rated team and pretenders to win an NBA title this season. I see a first-round exit for the Jazz in a stacked western conference.
As for tonight, Utah should still get this win against the Thunder. But I am betting against them to cover this crazy high point spread against a team that thrives in this position.
