I got the Celtics right on Sunday in game 7 improving my NBA Playoffs picks to 19-13 (59.4%) this postseason. With the conference finals now starting, I am going to have fewer NBA picks as the season ends. I’d like to watch the first couple of games in the conference finals and see some of the key matchups before I make my picks. For my best pick of the day, I will instead look towards the NHL playoffs for the first time this postseason.
NHL Playoffs: Avalanche (-220) Vs Blues $
The Colorado Avalanche has been the most dominant team in the NHL for a couple of seasons now. They had a disappointing second-round loss to the Vegas Knights last year in the playoffs after winning the President’s trophy for the best regular season. It is a common pattern in almost every sport that a dominant regular-season team often needs a playoff disappointment the previous season before they can break out and win a championship.
This postseason is shaping up perfectly for the Avalanch and I will be backing them to raise the Stanely Cup. They have a clear advantage in pretty much every category over every team in the NHL. But the most important things I look for in picking an NHL champion are high-quality goaltending and injuries.
Darcy Keumper has been solid all season and through the first round of the playoff as Colorado swept Minnesota. Colorado currently has no players on the injury list. This is key during the NHL playoffs as it is important to be able to roll three quality lines and maximize team chemistry. Hockey is not like basketball where 2 to 3 players can dominate a series. It really takes a total team effort to win a Stanely Cup and the Avalanche has more depth than any other team. I will be backing the favourites to get it done this year.
