NBA: Pelicans (-3.5) Vs Clippers $$
The Pelicans announced recently that Zion would no longer be rehabbing his sore foot and big belly with the team in NO and has moved to Portland for the foreseeable future. It seems likely he will not play at all this season and perhaps will never again play for the Pelicans. Zion has never hidden his desire to play in NY and he may leverage his absence to get himself there for next season.
I see this a good thing for the Pelicans who can now put this distraction behind them and focus on finding solutions to get back into the playoffs this season. They are making some progress and are looking better recently. While this team may never be really too dangerous, they could still challenge POR and SAC for a play-in spot.
The Clippers and are in trouble. Obviously Kawhi has been out all season and Paul George has missed significant time as well. The current version of the Clippers is a mish mash players with no team identity. They played horribly in the last game against DEN managing only 37 points thru 30 minutes of play. They did manage to still win that game after the Nuggets completely fell asleep in the fourth.
Do not let the records of these two teams mislead you into thinking the Clippers are the better team in this matchup.
NBA: Grizzlies (-4.5) Vs Timber Wolves $
The Grizzlies are my favourite team right now and have won 10 games in a row including a very impressive effort against the Warriors on Tuesday. Ja Morant was huge again in that game putting down 29 points including a couple of clutch buckets late. He should be getting more serious traction for MVP than he currently is.
I like the Wolves just fine, but they are in a tough spot in this matchup. This line seems light to me by at least a couple of buckets. I’ll take the better team, on a winning streak, with the best player, at home.
