MLB

MLB: Red Sox Houck (-120) @ Mariners Gonzales $

Red Sox moved back into a three-way tie with NY and TOR in the hunt for two playoff spots. Mariners find themselves hanging in at just three games back and they do not seem to want to give up on that race, but really they have overperformed most of the season.

It would be difficult to make the argument the Mariners are in the same category as the other teams in this race as their hitting line is not as strong and the bullpen has been good, but not great. Red Sox perhaps have underperformed this year and really should have a lead in the wild card race but are still struggling to find their form.

Houck is clearly this better pitcher in this matchup and they will need him to get a couple of wins down the stretch to get in. Marco Gonzales’ numbers are starting to drop off quickly as he has been giving up far too many HRs lately. This line seems a little short, so I like the short favourites here.

MLB: Indians Quantrill (-105) @ Twins Jax $

I am a little concerned with the Indian’s lack of production of late. I was going to pick McKenzie in the 7-inning game yesterday but changed at the last moment because of the recent lack of hitting production. But when I looked at the Twins, their numbers have dropped dramatically as well, likely even more so than the Indians. Both of these teams look like they are limping into the final two weeks of the season.

Cal Quantrill has been solid for the Indians. I definitely like him better than Griffin Jax for the Twins who really has been horrible and is hanging on to his starting role only because the Twins don’t have anyone better to throw out. The Twins bullpen has been bad as well so I like the Indian bats to come back to life.

As the MLB season wraps up, I will be focusing more on the upcoming football season so make sure you check back here every day for on my Daily Picks page to get your weekly football picks from NFL, NCAAF, and CFL.
