Free MLB Picks – July 6th, 2022

American League

Another good night for me yesterday as the Twins once again took care of the uninspired White Sox. The Orioles took care of my over pick on their own in an exciting 10-9 game against the Rangers. My July numbers are now 9-3 (+7.03 units).

MLB: Yankees [-1.5 -138] (Severino) @ Pirates (Keller)$

I’m going to take the Yankees today to recover from their recent two-game mini-slump. They manage only two runs in those games getting shut out in Cleveland then just two yesterday in Pittsburgh. This club is simply too talented for a slump like that to continue. They should be highly motivated to win today to avoid a series sweep to the lowly Pirates. A true mark of an MLB championship team (as the Yankees appear to be) is often their unwillingness to submit to a long losing streak. They generally play better after a tough loss, rebounding to get a win.

This is a big line to be laying on the road, but there is little to suggest the Pirates can repeat their victory from yesterday. The Yankees should break their slump and feast on young Mitch Keller who often struggles with his control. If he concedes too many walks to the hard-hitting Yankees, he is likely a see multi-run homers go over his head.

Luis Severino is coming off back-to-back losses to the Astros where he didn’t get much run support. He too should be focused today to get back in the win column.

Total: Blue Jays (Berrios) / Athletics (Kaprielian) Over {8} [-115] *

Does this MLB total seem low? Considering both starting pitchers have ERA this season over 5, the 8 total seems a bit of a no-brainer.

The Blue Jays certainly are capable of matching that total themselves although they have not been hitting the ball well lately. They are often guilty of swinging for the fences on every swing and lately, this is resulting in far too many pop-ups and fly balls. Eventually, they find their stoke again and today seems a likely time for them to do so.

The second-year starter for the A’s has seen his numbers fall quite significantly this year over his rookie season. It is yet to be seen if his rookie season was a fluke or if he will evolve into a quality starter. Either way, keeping the Blue Jay’s big bats in check is a tough task for any MLB pitcher.
