The Avalanche pulled out a solid defensive effort last night to finally bring home the Stanely Cup back to Colorado. It was great to see my childhood team win again after a 20-year drought and especially for Joe Sakic to get his first cup as GM. It is time now to put my attention on MLB for the rest of the summer.
MLB: Orioles [+139] (Wells) @ Mariners (Kirby) $
Don’t look now but the Baltimore Orioles are starting to look very average. That may not sound overly impressive, but for Orioles fans, it is reason enough for optimism.
After a 14-24 start to the MLB season, the Orioles have now won 10 of their last 15 games. I have even watched a few of their games and they have been doing it with some of the simpler things like good fielding and base running. They have a very young team still and there is room for growth in this team. At the very least, there should be some value betting on them until the linea makers begin adjusting.
Tyler Wells goes for the Orioles tonight. The 6’8” 27-year-old is in his second year as a starter and is starting to get some attention around the league. Baltimore has won five consecutive games with him on the mound yet he remains a solid underdog in Seattle tonight.
George Kirby has also been pitching well of late for the Mariners. But I like the value offered at (+139) for two teams who seem quite evenly matched.
