MLB: Mets [+117] (Williams) @ Astros (Urquidy) $
The surging New York Mets travel to Houston for a two-game interleague series against the first-place Astros. This is a key litmus test for the Mets this week who also travel to back to New York to take on the best team in baseball right now, the Yankees. Are the Mets really as good as their 45-24 record? We are likely to get a better idea by the end of this week.
The Mets are leading MLB in total runs and seem to be the team who has benefited most by the new National League DH rule. Pete Alonso leads the team with 19 HRs and leads MLB with 64 RBI. Alonso is thriving in his new role as DH.
The pitching matchup today also favours the Mets as Jose Urquidy is stuggling this season with a 1.52 Whip and has been offering up far too many HRs, 8 in just his last 6 starts. That is a bad combination and he could struggle tonight against the Mets’ hard hitting lineup.
Trevor Williams starts on the mound for the Mets tonight but he is really more of a long reliever and doesn’t have even a single 100 pitch outing in 5 starts. Let’s hope the Mets can get an early lead and the bullpen can bring this one home. This line seems too hight to me for a hot hitting team facing a stater who is prone getting blown up.
